Today's Thought

He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then He called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed Him.
Mark 1:19, 20 NAB

Why do I find it so hard to be like James and John? Why does it have to be so hard to hear His voice and follow? Why do I have to worry about having a family or being around my siblings and parents? Why do I find it so hard to imitate James and John?

Thanks for the thought. It is hard sometimes to hear His voice amidst the noise. James and John were probably "ready" in their hearts to follow Jesus. I guess when hearts are ready to trust, God will do the rest. It takes a leap of faith for me sometimes.

It is difficult to tear oneself away from the world. Even one hour in a week is too much to ask from some, much less a lifetime.
For every one disciple that dropped everything to follow Jesus, I imagine there were dozens who heard Him, but couldn't bring themselves to abandon everything. Like the man who asked to bury his father first, before following Jesus.
